Choosing an APIA seabass rod can be confusing because many lengths and power classes overlap. Start with the total weight you actually cast: lure or jighead, softbait and any additional components combined. Below, all 21 models in W74's current Foojin'Z 6th and Foojin'RS ranges are compared.
Quick choice by total lure weight
- Up to roughly 28–32 g: start with the light models for finesse, smaller minnows and lighter jigheads.
- For a broad mix around 6–45 g: the all-round group offers the most overlap and choice of length.
- For heavier shore work up to 48–80 g: select a power model and always check its complete stated range.
Why total lure weight matters more than jighead weight alone
A 12 g softbait on a 15 g jighead already weighs about 27 g. Include split rings, hooks and other hardware. Avoid a rod where your regular combination sits constantly at the very bottom or top of its rating. A rod generally feels most controlled away from those extremes, although action, line, wind and lure profile also matter. See our general guide to seabass rod length, lure rating and action.
Light models: 3–28 g to 5–32 g
For smaller plugs, light softbaits and situations where control and feedback matter more than maximum casting range.

Which length suits your fishing location?
- Approximately 2.31–2.77 m: highly manoeuvrable for tight harbours, accurate casting and active lure work.
- Approximately 2.79–2.95 m: versatile middle ground for piers, harbour entrances and mixed coastline.
- Approximately 3.05–3.25 m: extra reach and line control for beaches, surf and open coast.
Frequently asked questions
Is 10–40 g the best all-round seabass rating?
It is a useful middle range for many anglers, but your actual lure box should decide. If you mainly cast 8–20 g, you do not need a heavier rod; if you often exceed 40 g, choose a wider rating.
Can I cast 50 g with a rod rated to 40 g?
We do not recommend it. The rating applies to total casting weight. Choose a model whose stated range includes 50 g.
Is a longer seabass rod always better?
No. Extra length can improve reach and line control, but reduces manoeuvrability and can make active lure work more tiring.
